Every stitch photo, finished-project flat lay, and step-by-step process shot on The Crafty Wren exists to help you crochet with more confidence. This page explains where our images come from, how we credit outside photographers and designers, and what to do if you believe one of your images has been used without proper permission.

Original Photography

The vast majority of images on this site — including finished amigurumi pieces, blanket close-ups, stitch tutorials, and step-by-step photo sequences — are created in-house specifically for the patterns and guides we publish. These photos are taken as we crochet, test, and photograph each project ourselves, which you can read more about in our Editorial Policy. Unless otherwise noted underneath an image or within a post, you can assume the photograph was produced by our team and belongs to The Crafty Wren.

Licensed and Stock Images

Occasionally, we supplement our original photography with licensed stock images — for example, yarn texture backgrounds, seasonal styling props, or generic craft-room scenes that support a post without being the actual pattern itself. These images are sourced from reputable stock libraries and creative marketplaces under paid or royalty-free licenses that permit commercial use on a content website like ours. We keep records of these licenses and can produce them on request.

Third-Party Attribution

When we feature, reference, or link to a pattern, technique, or product that belongs to another designer, brand, or maker, we make every effort to credit that source clearly — either with a visible photo caption, an in-text mention, or a direct link back to the original creator's website or shop. If you see a project referenced from another designer on our site, that credit is intentional and is meant to send appreciation and traffic back to the original maker, not to claim their work as our own.

User-Submitted and Community Images

From time to time, readers share photos of their finished projects with us — for instance, after completing a pattern featured in a post. When we share these images publicly, we only do so with the maker's clear permission, and we always credit the crafter by name or social handle unless they ask to remain anonymous. If you have submitted a photo and would like it removed, updated, or re-credited, just reach out and we will handle it promptly.

Pinterest and Social Media Imagery

Many of our pattern images are designed specifically to be pinned and shared on Pinterest and other platforms. How Attribution Requests Work

We take image ownership seriously, and mistakes can happen — a caption may be missing, a credit line may be outdated, or a license may need to be re-verified. If any of the following applies to you, please get in touch:

• You are the original creator of an image used on our site and would like a credit added or corrected.
• You believe an image was used beyond the scope of its license.
• You would like your submitted project photo removed or updated.

We review every request personally and typically respond within a few business days.

Takedown Requests

If you own the rights to an image and want it removed from The Crafty Wren rather than credited, we will act on legitimate requests quickly. Please include proof of ownership (such as the original file, a link to where it was first published, or licensing documentation) in your email so we can verify the claim and act accordingly. Our original photographs, styled flat lays, and pattern graphics are created for use on this site and are protected by copyright.
